Sunny Maritime Duty Free The origins of Sunny Maritime Duty Free go back to 1982. In the beginning, the duty free operations were known under the name 'Sunny Radio', located in the center of Antwerp. This was and still is the core activity of the company. In 1999, the store and warehouse moved to the present location in the port of Antwerp. The name changed to 'Sunny Europe'. After the succesfull growth of the overall business, a maritime and a diplomatic department were created in 2007: Maritime duty free under the name that all maritime travellers know as 'Sunny', and Diplomatic duty free under the brand 'The Diplomatic House' with a physical Diplomatic House in Brussels.
In 2012 after 30 years of existence, Sunny Europe nv/sa developed a new and luxurious Concept Store of 1600m2 in Antwerp, open in May 2012, serving both maritime travellers and diplomatic customers. At the same time, a Sunny webstore will also open to welcome all maritime travellers that want to receive the advantages of shopping duty free through the internet. In Sunny Europe, a duty-free products distributor, eight Modula units each 8m high, have been installed to allow Sunny to manage their complex variety of orders and improve their picking optimisation. The Modula VLM is an automated warehouse that increases efficiency and productivity, by speeding up the picking operations.
